Dynamic Folders (BETA). Have you ever wanted to use BlinkPro for more than just bookmarks? Well with our new Dynamic Folder capability you can have news headlines and other dynamic content automatically added to your BlinkPro account every day!

A dynamic folder is not like other BlinkPro folders. The folder isn't filled with bookmarks by you. Instead, it is automatically filled with all the links on any URL you provide. So if you want to get updates on all the stories on CNN, just create a new dynamic folder named 'CNN Headlines' and tie the folder to 'www.cnn.com'. Every day BlinkPro will automatically fill the folder with all the links on CNN's front page.

You can also get more structured news feeds using XML technology by creating a dynamic folder pointed to an RSS feed. What is an RSS feed you ask? RSS is quickly becoming the established standard for web content syndication. There are literally thousands of RSS news sources available on the web and now you can access any one of them directly through your BlinkPro account. For a directory of RSS feeds available, visit newsisfree.com.

Creating a dynamic folder is simple:

  • Click on the 'My Sites' tab
  • From the folder menu, select 'Dynamic folder'
  • You will be presented with the Dynamic Folder add screen. This screen has the following fields
    • Dynamic URL: The URL or RSS feed of the page to be scanned into the dynamic folder.
    • Update Frequency: How often you would like the dynamic folder to be updated. Remember, the sites in your dynamic folder will be updated automatically.
    • Filter Ads: If you check this box the dynamic folder will exclude links which commonly contain advertisements (such as those with the string 'ad?')
    • Filter Internal: If you check this box the dynamic folder will exclude links which are within the domain being linked. So if the URL was www.yahoo.com a link to www.yahoo.com/news would be omitted.
    • Name: The folder name of your choosing
    • Description: The folder description
    • Located in: The location of the folder
  • Click 'Add Dynamic Folder'
  • The folder will now appear in your My Sites directory or folder tree. To try filling the folder automatically, open the folder and click the 'Update Now...' link near the top of the page.
The dynamic folders system is still in beta, so be sure to give us your feedback!
